Draft article for double page spread.

Article for ‘THE LOOT’.
MYSTIC, a Philadelphia born Hip Hop artist who’s climbing his way to the top in the American charts. Born and raised in the rough area of Phile, Mystic has hard one of the hardest life ever to be known of by a successful artist. His real name is Jordon Drone but changed his name after his lyrics and beats were recognised by the people in his area. He started being recognised after joining in corner rap battles and showing them up with his lyrics. Once he started, his reputation started to boom; his name spread around the area so fast that people from other cities started to get to know about him and wanted to see what he could do. Mystic got into battles around different cities and venues and started doing it for money. He won battles and put people to shame with what he said to them. The crowd loved him and on one of his battles a friend of a producer at DEF JAM records heard him and bounced along to his lyrics. He heard his name that many times that he got his contact details and met up with him and introduced him to the DEF JAM producer Rick Rubin. After showing him what he can do behind a mic, Jordon Drone, aged 20, was signed onto DEF JAM records with the name MYSTIC.
He is here with us today telling us about his career, life experiences and how it feels coming from the ghetto to a million dollar lifestyle.
What were the hardest times in in your life?
‘Erm probably when I was about 15-17 when my family used to struggle with money. All my boys would go out and chill but I had to work for the family at some factory making mesh and my mama would sip the liquor with my dad so they never worked much. I had to provide the food and that for them, yeah, it took the piss but I had to do it. But anyways, yeah, I used to work long hours and be knackered through the day so I hardly got time for anything and then I’d get home and my parents would piss me off so I’d switch at them and just get angry and do something stupid.
We learnt that were born and raised in the rough side of Phile, what was the worst thing you witnessed?
Aww man, I don’t like talking about this one. But when I was just 9 years old I was walking in this block of flats with my friend and we were going out to the courts for some bball and I heard some shouting in the hall way. I seen some dude with this bag and a baly on running past us and then some other man started shooting at that dude, he got about 4 meters away from us then dropped on the floor with three holes in his back. That shit was crazy man, gets me every time.
How did you find your way to this situation, how were you recognised?
I was battling some dude on stage and after I whooped his ass…ahaa after I had him, this guy names Brian comes us to me and was like ‘hey you talented, ever thought of recording something’ and I was like ‘naa man why?’ and he goes ‘I’m good friends with Rick Rubin, I’ll take you down and see if we can sort something out’. I was like ‘yeah cool’ then he took my details and it just kicked off from there. Now I’m MYSITC!

How did you get from Jordon Drone to MYSTIC?
I don’t know, but one of my friends heard it and said it suited me so I kinda just stuck with it. Might change it in the future but we’ll see. It's a good name like a lot of people know me by it, you know it's short quite snappy, catchy so works well. I did use the name BIG SNIPES when i was a younger but now i need something more professional so Mystic suits it nicely.
How you finding life in this moment in time?
Yeah, you know now there’s big dollar involved life’s pretty good. Money makes the world go round and for me it’s spinning quite nicely, like now I can buy anything in any shop with nice cars. You know the lot.

I was told some other artists have a problem with you and what you say, how does this affect you and what would you like to say to them?

To other artists out there who hate out there, i don't see what your problem is but if you got something to say you should come say it to me than talking over the media about it. I'm still not sure why they hate but obviously they have some reason which i dont know about. My lyrics are a bit crazy sometimes but they're for people to enjoy and me to express myself, but like i said they got problem come to me.
What are your career ambitions for the future?
Erm, I'm still young and new so I just wana get well known first. Like people in the states know of me and that the best, such a good feeling but then I wana start to get big around the world now. The day I have a world tour will be the day where I'll be satisfied.
How are you planning on getting this big?
The easiest way is the media but they piss me off a lot, they can help you get to that point but sometime I can’t be arsed with them. Ima keep making tracks and that and hopefully i can get recognised through music channels and things like that.
What one thing would you say to potential fans out there?
I'm new; I'm good I know what people want from music now days and I can do that. My lyrics are sick and I'm sure y’all gona like em’. Mystic, watch out.
